MEDIAFOUR MAKES COMPUTING EASIER FOR AVID EDITORS

CrossStripe technology eases cross-platform struggles for film and video professionals

WEST DES MOINES, IA (28-Nov-2000) — Mediafour Corporation, a leading developer of cross-platform software solutions, has entered into an agreement with multimedia-editing industry leader Avid® Technology, Inc. to provide an enhanced version of their award-winning MacDrive™ 2000 software to purchasers of all Windows-based Avid Symphony® and Media Composer® systems.

This bundle enables Avid users to work faster and more productively by eliminating many compatibility issues between Mac OS- and Windows-based Avid editing systems. The addition of MacDrive to the Avid systems enables users to seamlessly access video and audio data on Mac-formatted disks directly from Windows-based systems. This level of compatibility allows for straightforward cross-platform migration or sharing of editing projects.

Distinguishing the special MacDrive 2000 CrossStripe Edition is the inclusion of CrossStripe™ technology developed by Mediafour. CrossStripe enables Windows to recognize sets of "striped" Mac-formatted hard drives. The "striping" of hard drives is the combining of several relatively small and slow hard drives so as to appear as one very large and fast hard drive. Striping has long been a standard technique for Avid users, who require large amounts of fast hard drive storage to accomplish film-, video- and other multimedia-editing tasks.

"It's not often that one little product can have such a big impact on efficiency," said Avid solution designer Jim McKenna. "In a cross-platform editing environment with local storage, it is hard to imagine a more useful software tool than MacDrive 2000 with the CrossStripe driver."
