How to update or restore your iPod with the latest firmware
The iPod Restore Wizard is accessed by choosing Update or Restore my iPod from the Notification Icon, Shortcut Menus, or Start Menu.
The iPod Restore Wizard is capable of two things:
The Update option will simply install new iPod system software on your iPod. When new system software becomes available, it may add additional functionality to your iPod, or it may simply eliminate some iPod problems.

The Restore option will also reformat your iPod, effectively returning the iPod to factory-fresh condition. This is advisable if you are experiencing any unexplained iPod behavior, and especially if you've run into any problems involving "write-behind data lost" or "CRC" errors while transferring files or songs to your iPod.

When you reach the end of the wizard, be certain to read the instructions carefully before clicking Finish, as you may need to properly stop your iPod before unplugging it, and you may need to plug your iPod into a power source in order to complete the update or restore operation. |
